Playing Hooky on Route 66!

Live!  Ride On The Back Of A Harley And See America!

MAPS, GUIDE BOOKS AND GPS SYSTEMS

We have decided where were going and how long it’s going to take us.  We got a pretty good idea on what it’s going to cost and we definitely know what were riding.  So now, how are we going to get there, which highway to take, should we take the interstate or stick to the back roads?  Like so often before old man time will have a lot to say in our decision making.  I have to say the general consensus is to not ride on the interstate highways.  Having said that, we do have the smarts to know that sometimes its just a necessary evil.  If you are short on time, just suck it up, bite the bullet and run the slab.  Don’t be late ride interstate.  The first 900 miles or so of this trip is interstate.  With 30 days at our disposal why ride interstate you ask?  Because we want to get to Chicago, Illinois fast and spend our time on Route 66 slow.  If you want to meet AMERICA take the back roads so the value of a good map Atlas or guide book is immeasurable.  The ability to read and comprehend how a map works will fall into the slightly important category as well.  Everyone in our group carries a map.  We all have a voice and come to an agreement on how we should go. This system works very well for us.  Each night we will discuss the next days ride.  Just to see if any tweaking is needed.  This way no one is just blindly following the next guy.  We all know where we should be going.  We do have GPS on our trip.  I’ve never really been a gadget guy but this really is a great tool.  Our GPS is being used in a back-up emergency capacity.

So get ready for the ride of your life.  Enjoy and visit often.
